Central defenders
So at the moment we have 2 senior players fit.One of these is Ogbana who is playing terribly.Balbuana is out for another 5 weeks. We have to get one in NOW.Really we need 2 cos if Diop gets injured we have none bar Ogbaba who is hopeless.

Re: Central defenders
..

I think that's the point. Tomkins didn't want to be a good back up and Pellegrini would certainly not want him at right back.

So pretending he is an option now is pretty silly.

Re: Central defenders
Re: Tomkins at the time leaving was the best thing for him to do. Since then he has got the game time he needed to push on (something he was not guaranteed at West Ham)
However I feel if he came back now (unlikely) he would be at least 3rd choice Centre Back and a decent back up or first choice at Right Back next Season if Zabaleta leaves.

Re: Rio Did we ever replace him ?

Re: Central defenders
Maybe it does sound like Diop but at least Diop has a bit of pace and the ability to make a tackle to get him out of trouble.

Ogbonna has been at fault for more goals conceded that Diop this season in a lot fewer appearances.

Still talking about Tomkins!! Jesus. May as well say that it the sales of Bilic, Reiper and Ferdinand are causing problems now.

I thought the news earlier in the window about Medel was promising, he played at centre back for his country as well as being cover elsewhere.

They just wanted too much for someone of his age I guess. I would be worried it would probably the same on wages with Cahill.

Re: Central defenders
We rewrite history a bit.

Ogbonna was a starting centre back for balance of our best season in recent years.

With our only positive goal difference in recent years and with a goals against (51) that was on generally on par with the defensive Allardyce Premiership years and our best number in that area since.

That is the backdrop against which Tomkins wanted to start or leave. Bilic decided to let him leave and got decent money, for the time, for him.

Ogbonna is not playing as well now, for whatever reason, but to pretend like the decision was made today, is very disingenuous.

Ornchurch hammer 10:36.that sounds like a description of diop.

Re: Central defenders
Tomkins was the one who decided Ogbonna was a better option.
He wanted Bilic to guarantee him a start
If he’d stayed he would have replaced Ogbonna in time.
Though he’d be sitting out when Diop and Balbuena arrived.
Still say we should have kept Ginge for one more season as 4th choice until (and if) Josh Pask was ready.

Re: Central defenders
So Ogbonna is fucking dogshit because of Masuaku?

Anything else we can blame on him?

Iron Duke 11:09 Mon Jan 28
Re: Central defenders
I'm not a big fan of Ogbonna, but he is definitely hampered from having to cover for Massuaku.

As a third or fourth choice centre back for a mid-table team, he is not terrible. However, how Bilic thought that he was a better option than Tomkins I'll never understand.

ornchurch ammer 10:36 Mon Jan 28
Re: Central defenders
Ogbonna is poor and has always had a ticket in him.

Loses far too many headers for a centre back and his positional sense and passing are below average. Get shot of him.

No, Ogbonna is useless.

Re: Central defenders
Here we go...another Ogbonna bashing.

He's been playing well, with Cresswell on the left.

As soon as that useless prat Masuaka starts masquerading as a left back, everyone starts claiming that Ogbonna is useless.

It's not him! It's that he has double the work to do. As soon we f*
ck Arthur off to somewhere, anywhere please...so much the better

Not the same Centre Back that did a half decent job at Right Back for us a few seasons back ? If so would be a good shout

Re: Central defenders
There's an experienced English centre back at Palace who has been their star performer this season by a mile, we should go after him.
